Joint Pain Treatment

Joint Pain Treatment

Joint stiffness is the sensation of or the apparent loss of range of motion of a joint. Joint stiffness often accompanies joint pain and/or swelling. Joint stiffness can be caused by injury or disease of the joint and is a common finding in the arthritis conditions.

Joint damage including stiffness can also occur following injury to the joint. Sometimes injuries or inflammation of the adjacent areas, such as bursae, can cause pain that may limit the movement of a joint and be perceived as joint stiffness. Joint pain is also referred to as arthralgia.

Lower leg pain originating from or relating to low back dysfunction can be very successfully treated & prevented by Spinal and Sports Care.

In the majority of cases, a herniated lumbar disc will slowly improve over a period of several days to weeks. Typically, most patients are free of symptoms by 3 to 4 months. However, some patients do experience episodes of pain during their recovery.

Unless there are neurological deficits — muscle weakness, difficulty walking — or cauda equina syndrome, conservative care is the first course of treatment. Because it is not clear that nonsurgical care is any better than letting the condition resolve on its own, the focus is on providing pain relief.

Treatment of Arthritis

Treatment of Arthritis

Arthritis literally means inflammation of one or more joints.

Treatment of Arthritis
Treatment of Arthritis
Arthritis is frequently accompanied by joint pain and is commonly a source of lower back pain.

Lower back pain and stiffness may develop from ‘wear and tear’ to the spinal joints and discs resulting in damage to the articular cartilage.

This can be degenerative in nature, be gradual in onset, and may become chronic.

Lower back arthritis can be seen in all age groups but is most common in older patients, obese individuals, heavy laborers and individuals with previous injuries to the spine.

There are over 100 identified types of arthritis and the cause of each is dependent on the form of arthritis.

Causes include injury (leading to DJD/osteoarthritis), metabolic abnormalities (such as gout), hereditary factors, the direct and indirect effect of infections (bacterial and viral), and a misdirected immune system with autoimmunity (such as in rheumatoid arthritis and systemic lupus erythematosus).

Neck pain often results from abnormalities in the soft tissues – muscles, ligaments, and nerves, as well as in the bone and the joints of the spine. The most common causes that we identify and treat are soft tissue abnormalities from injury or prolonged wear and tear in many people and can also the source of pain in the upper back, shoulders and arms.

When neck pain is caused by muscle strain, you may have aches and stiffness that spread to the upper arm and forearm. Shooting pain that spread down the arm into the hand and fingers can be a symptom of a “pinched nerve” or nerve entrapment in the neck. When a nerve is “pinched” in the neck, numbness, weakness and possibly pain of the hands or arms may occur. Disc injuries are the most common cause of nerve entrapments.

What is Foot Pronation?

What is Foot Pronation?

When the outside part of the heel of your shoe wears significantly faster than the inside, this is a sign that a person is over pronating when they walk/run. Excessive pronation, or flat feet as it is commonly known is where the arch of the foot collapses as a person walks and the feet roll in.

What is Foot Pronation?
What is Foot Pronation?
This can be caused by a number of things including ligamentous laxity, leg length inequalities, weakness/tightness in the calf, and other general anatomical variants.

What does this cause?

The feet are the foundation for your body and excessive pronation of the feet will frequently lead to altered lower limb and pelvic biomechanics which increases the risk of injury throughout the body especially during walking and running. As seen in the image below on the left this can cause problems throughout the entire body as force is transferred up through the legs from the feet all the way up to the neck/head. The right image shows how the body is supposed to look when aligned correctly.
